ITIL® 2011 Foundation Details

THE ITIL® FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE IN ITSM

The purpose of the ITIL® Foundation certificate in IT Service Management is to certify that the candidate has gained knowledge of the ITIL® terminology, structure and basic concepts and has comprehended the core principles of ITIL® practices for service management.

The ITIL® Foundation certificate in IT Service Management is not intended to enable the holders of the certificate to apply the ITIL® practices for service management without further guidance.

Target Group

The target group of the ITIL® Foundation certificate in IT Service Management is drawn from:

    • Individuals who require a basic understanding of the ITIL® framework and how it may be used to enhance the quality of IT service management within an organization.
    • IT professionals that are working within an organization that has adopted and adapted ITIL® who need to be informed about and thereafter contribute to an ongoing service improvement program.

This may include but is not limited to, IT professionals, business managers and business process owners.

Learning Objectives

Candidates can expect to gain knowledge and understanding in the following upon successful completion of the education and examination components related to this certification.

    • Service management as a practice (comprehension)
    • The ITIL® service lifecycle (comprehension)
    • Generic concepts and definitions (awareness)
    • Key principles and models (comprehension)
    • Selected processes (awareness)
    • Selected functions (awareness)
    • Selected roles (awareness)
    • Technology and architecture (awareness)
    • Competence and training (awareness)

This syllabus has an accompanying examination at which the candidate must achieve a pass score to gain the ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management

Type Multiple choice, 40 questions. The questions are selected from the full ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management examination question bank.
Duration Maximum 60 minutes for all candidates in their respective language
Provisions for additional time relating to language Candidates completing an exam:

  • in a language that is not their mother tongue, and
  • where the language of the exam is not their primary business language, have a maximum of 75 minutes to complete the exam and are allowed the use of a dictionary
Prerequisite Accredited ITIL® Foundation training is strongly recommended but is not a prerequisite

Most FAQ's?

A: No.  Some familiarity with IT is helpful, but not required.  The instructor will explain the concepts in real world terms, not (just) technical terms.  In fact, many of our students are Project Managers who need to gain a “management level” understanding of IT without having a technical background.

A:  ITIL 2011 is the most current iteration of the ITIL core publications.  The ITIL books replaced ITIL v3, originally published in 2007. For this reason, the two versions are sometimes referred to as “ITILv3:2007” and “ITIL v3:2011”, respectively.  The ITIL 2011 books did not introduce any NEW content, but instead improved on the existing content (more consistency across the library, better examples, additional process flows and diagrams).  ITIL 2011 is the only version of the ITIL Foundations Exam that is currently available.

A:  The ITIL v2 certifications expired at the end of 2010, so you would need to take the ITIL 2011 Foundations exam.

A:  No.  ITIL v3 certifications from both the 2007 and 2011 editions are functionally the same, and do not need to be updated.

A: We guarantee that all students will pass the exam – in fact, over 99% of our students pass on the first attempt.  However, should you need to retake the exam, we will assist you in preparation and set up the retake at no additional cost.  You can always attend the course again at no cost, although in most cases this isn’t necessary.
